Blendabilities ....and a partridge in a pear tree!

In this post I thought I would just give some basic tips for colouring with Blendabilities... oops... I almost wrote Belindabilities : ]   I keep doing that!
This stamp set " Partridge & Pears" is quite good to colour with blendabilities, because the sections are small  enough to be coloured easily, but not so small that they're too fiddly, even though there is a lot of leaves.
Stamps: Partridge & Pears
Card stock: Whisper White, Basic Gray & Smoky Slate.
Blendabilities: Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Smoky Slate, Pumpkin Pie, Ivory, Marina Mist & Colour Lifter.
Ink: Memento Black & Smoky Slate.
Extras: Window Frames Collection Framelits & Whisper White Ribbon.

Pears: Old Olive & Daffodil Delight. I used dots to start with the darker colours first, because pears sometimes look spotty (unless that's just me). My general rule is to use the darker colours around the edges, then build it up with the lighter colours. It's helps if you imagine a light source & shadow area, as if the sun is shining from one direction & casting shadow in the other.

Tree Trunk & Branches: Crumb Cake- You can tell I wasn't being very fussy here, just using strokes, because trees are streaky : ) Again remember to keep the direction of your light source consistent.

Leaves: Old Olive- I guess if I could give any guidelines here it would be starting in the corner  of the leaf closest the stem, then build on that. Basically you just want to add dimension with the dark & light shades, so the leaves don't look flat.

Fruit: Daffodil Delight & Old Olive- I guess this is the baby fruit, it's so small you only need to dot it with the bullet end.

Partridge: Smoky Slate, Ivory, Colour Lifter & Pumpkin Pie.
You may be wondering why I'm colouring the partridge on a scrap of card stock here. Well honestly I didn't like the way the other one turned out, so I decided to colour & cut another one to stick on top. As a crafter I often find myself looking for ways to cover mistakes, this is one of them!

The Wing: Smoky Slate, Marina Mist, Colour Lifter, Ivory & Bronze.
If you've had much experience with alcohol markers you may have used the tip-to-tip technique, this is much the same except with acetate (or any clean plastic surface). Basically the acetate is your paint pallet to pick up extra colours.
Here I scribbled some Marina Mist onto the acetate, then picked up the blue colour with Lightest of the Smoky Slate. Just like blender pens the extra (or added) colour will run out as you colour, but will tint the colour slightly, in this case to a bluish gray. You just need to remember to scribble the excess of the other colour off the marker when you've finished,  you don't want to permanently taint your markers.

I know all the other photos are probably a bit small to see all the details that I've tried to explain, so hopefully this helps give a better picture.

Dimensionals popping up the partridge & the wing.

I coloured & cut out  a few extra leaves because the card just looked like it needed something else.
Leaves: Old Olive & Daffodil Delight.

Dark & Spooky Cards

I know we don't really celebrate Halloween here in Australia, (well I actually take my kids "trick or treating" at Old Gippstown) but I just couldn't help myself, I had to make something Halloween.
Stamps: Holiday Home & Gorgeous Grunge
Card stock: Mossy Meadow, Basic Black, Whisper White & Vellum.
Blendabilities: Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight, Night of Navy & Colour lifter.
Ink: Mossy Meadow, Pacific Point, Night of Navy Elegant Eggplant, Smoky Slate & Memento Black.
Extras: Top Note Die, Washi Tape, Circle Punch & Acetate (for making stencils).
Techniques: Tearing, Alcohol Colouring, Masking & Sponging.

Here you can see I've used a craft knife to cut the door open on the house, then I stuck in a ghost that I stamped in Smoky Slate onto Vellum, fussy cut & used a glue dot to adhere.
I also masked the edges of the windows before stamping the ghosts again in Smoky Slate ink, then used the colour lifter to lighten them a little bit.

This card was for my daughter-Jayda's friend, so Jayda stamped & coloured the girl with Alcohol Markers herself, (which I thought she did a pretty good job), then came to me & asked me to make the rest of the card to go with it....
Her requests were to match the girl, in colour bule, purple & black, as well as keeping it spooky. We also need somewhere to put the money (which was her present + chocolate).
Stampin' Up! Stamps:  Sassy Salutations, Gorgeous Grunge & Wicked Cool
Other Stamps: Devilish Donna- Kenny K
Card stock: Concord Crush, Basic BLack & Whisper White.
Ink: Concord Crush, Night of Navy Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight & Basic Black.
Extras: Circle Punch & Envelope Punch Board
Techniques: Masking & Sponging.

This one was for my sister in-law, so Jayda also stamped and coloured in the girl on this card as well since it was for her auntie. The idea was to make it like Linda (the recipient) who wanted red & purple ombre hair.
Stampin' Up! Stamps: Just Sayin'
Other Stamps: Devilish Donna- Kenny K
Card Stock: Riding Hood Red, Basic Black, Very Vanilla & dsp?
Ink: Riding Hood Red, Elegant Eggplant & Basick Black.
Extras: Word Bubble Framelits, Washi Tape, Spiral Punch & Striped ribbon.

Christmas Baubles, A Bowls of Cherries, Shakers & a little Surprise

It seem like it takes me ages to the pictures up after I've made the cards...But I guess they don't always end up on here in the same order that I make them in. Sometimes it's because I might colour-in an image but not make it into a card...for a very long time ...well I actually made this one into a card recently- finally.
Stamps: Christmas Bauble & Good Greetings.
Card stock: Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy, Brushed Gold & Whisper White.
Blendabilities: Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy, Wisteria Wonder, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive & Cherry Cobbler.
Extras: Gold Embossing Powder & Razzleberry Ribbon.

This was another one of those ones that I had coloured-in, left laying around for ages, then found the red card base I had used as a demonstration  but only for the framelit flip part, (no decorating) & thought why not put the two together...
For more details on the Framelit Flip card Click Here.

Stamps: Christmas Bauble & Endless Wishes.
Card stock: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White & Lost Lagoon.
Water-coloured Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Lost Lagoon & Daffodil Delight.

Mini Ornament Punch, All is Calm Washi Tape & Cherry Cobbler Baker Twine.

I was kind of copy catting the sample in the Seasonal Catalogue here, but trying to add a shaker frame too.
Stamps: Holiday Homes
Card stock: Pool Party & Whisper White.
Ink: Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, Old Olive, Smoky Slate, Bermuda Bay & Basic Gray.
Punches: Circles & Scallop Circle
Extras: Frosted + in-Colour Sequins, Dazzling Diamonds & round shaker frame foam.

Stamps: Giggle Greetings
Colours: Soft Sky, Lost Lagoon, Cherry Cobbler & Whisper White.
Textured Embossing Folder : Chevron
Extras: Black Embossing Powder, Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine & the Cherry from the Cupcake Builder Punch.

I used an Aqua Painter & ink to watercolour the image after embossing with black. I also added a bit of White Chalk Pen to the Cherries & a Smoky Slate shadow.

I seen a version of this card while surfing for ideas one day. Mine is similar to the one I had seen, but I didn't have the stamp set they had used, & the colours are different too.

Slider Cards

These Slider cards were really easy and so much fun to make... I love these cards at the moment, I'm sure you can tell when you see them all. Though I must admit I am missing one from the collection, which I left behind for some to use as a guide (it was was one of my favourites too).
So of course I did use this card for a workshop project, and yes...everyone loved it!

No, this wasn't the workshop project, though I did bring it along to show the versatility of the card.
I Just loved the idea of putting the car on the slider and now I'd have to say this is probably my most favourite one.
(This is not my stamp set by the way, I borrowed it from my wonderful friend Shari, who shares everything, lucky for me)

This one seemed like a good idea at the time... but I didn't quite pull it off, I guess that's what happens when you stay up too late working on the wrong projects : /
Stamps: Holiday Homes, Lovely as a Tree & Good Greetings.
Colours Basic Black Whisper White, Night of Navy & Daffodil Delight.
Framelits: Holiday Homes & Chalk Talk.
Techniques: Masking & Sponging.
I just wanted to mention here that if you want to save on card stock just cut the length of card to 8 1/4" instead of 81/2". This way you'll get two out of a sheet of A4. You will need change one other measurement though, instead of cutting the slot 1 1/2" from the edge you'll cut 1 1/4", you'll also have a smaller section to stick the card together with ( 1/4" instead of 1/2"). I found changing to these measurements was quite easy to adjust. I just wish I had thought of it before I had drawn up the measurements and instructions...

Circle Framelits

Ta-da! This was my first attempt at the peek-a-boo card, (or Gate fold shutter).
Though I thought I could adjust the measurement to save on card stock....well that didn't quite work as easily as I thought it would.

As you can see here the dsp doesn't completely uncover the circle, so I think I keep practicing.
I have made a few more... I'll get them up here soon. But I haven't perfected it yet.

Here are a few of videos tutorials that may be helpful if you want to have a go at making one.

Framelit Flip Card

I'm not really sure what else to call this card card, but France Martin called it the "Barb Flip Card" -with Framelits. I think Barb was the person who made the one she had seen.... Anyway check out Frenchiestamps for the video tutorial.
Stamps: Cupcake Party
Colours: Cherry Cobbler, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White & Naturals White.
Framelits: Deco Label
Punches: Cupcake Builder
Extras: Decorative Dots Embossing Folder,  Brayer &  White Gel Pen.

You can see how both the front and back framelit section of the card flips out when open.

This was the first one I made, which is much the same as the one above, thought a bit plainer.

This is what it looks like from the back. You can see the small piece of card stock that attaches the framelits together.

Sorry about the messy photos for this card, but I seem to have miss placed this card & had only taken these photos of it.

As you can see this card is made in horizontal orientation (Longways or sideways)  and with a window in the front framelit.

Stamps: Cupcake Party
Colours: Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Pistachio Pudding, Melon Mambo & Whisper White.
Framelits & Punches: Deco Labels & Cupcake Builder
Extras: Window Sheet & White Stazon
Remember to checkout France Martins site for more information: www.frenchiestamps.com
