Nailed It - Pop-up Panel Card

Stamp sets: Nailed It, Gorgeous Grunge & Adventure Awaits
Cardstock: Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Delightful Dijon & Whisper White
Ink: Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Delightful Dijon, Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze & Archival Black
Tools: Build It Framelits, Paper Crimper & Hexagons Dynamic Folder
Extras: Kraft Rope Trim
Techniques: Sponging & Watercolouring

This card is totally inspired by Rose Packers card that I had seen on Pinterest
With a little searching I found Rose's Blog post featuring this cards inspiration.

This ended up being the perfect card for my dad's birthday... being a builder and all that handy stuff dads do.

I love the rustic textures of a card like this. You can get rough with it and messy too and it still looks good.

The pop-up panel is great for a wow factor and gives plenty of room for decorating the inside of the card, if that's what you'd like to do.
I had seen a few cards on Pinterest with the pop-up panel featuring the Nailed It stamp set, but probably too many to give credit to any one person.

Acrylic Block Background Technique

I shared this technique in a class because it's so easy & it is so much fun.
The Acrylic Block Background technique is used on the Whisper White card stock in the middle of the card, while most of the rest is Irresistibly Yours dsp from Sale-a-bration, sponged & stamped in the coordinating colours.
This card has a lemony fresh thing going on, while the card below looks minty fresh : D
Stamp Sets: Adventure Awaits & Kinda Eclectic
Cardstock: Naturals White, Basic Black, Whisper White & Irresistibly Yours.
Ink: Memento Black, Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi & Island Indigo.
Extras: White Jute Ribbon & In Colour Sequins
Techniques: Sponging & Acrylic Block Background

Stamp Sets: Adventure Awaits & Kinda Eclectic
Cardstock: Naturals White, Basic Black, Whisper White & Irresistibly Yours.
Ink: Memento Black, Pistachio Pudding Coastal Cabana & Island Indigo.
Extras: White Jute Ribbon & In Colour Sequins
Techniques: Sponging & Acrylic Block Background

You can sponge & stamp whatever you like onto the Irresistibly Yours dsp & it looks great, just remember to use a tissue or paper towel to remove the excess ink from all the clear embossed patterns or it will transfer onto your hands & get messy.

Basic materials for creating the Acrylic Block Background technique.
You will need an acrylic block, Whisper White (or Very Vanilla) card stock, Two or three shades of ink & water in a spray/mister bottle (not in the photo- sorry).

Starting with the lightest colour ( Pistachio Pudding), I inked up roughly half the block directly from the ink pad.

Next I added Coastal Cabana to the other half of the block, directly from the ink pad.

Saving the darkest colour for last, I added Island Indigo with a sponge dauber just to the edge of the Coastal Cabana. I was going for a bit of an ombre look here.
The best thing about using a sponge dauber is you can apply it anywhere on the block, not just on the edge.

I found it helpful to put a piece of paper towel under the block before spraying it with water, just to stop everything else ending up all wet.

I may have gotten a bit carried away with the water here, but if you don't have enough water on the block then you'll end up with patches of white card stock showing through.

Once you place your block onto the white card stock you'll need to wait a moment for all of the water & ink to be absorbed. It doesn't take very long, you'll see it rippling as it transfers from the block to the card stock.

When you remove the block it will be practically clean and dry, if you allowed enough time for the water & ink to be absorbed & if there was enough water to help the ink transfer.
(You can see I had a bit much water on the block as it had dripped onto the card stock)

Now that you have a lovely coloured background, created with your acrylic block, you can stamp whatever you like onto it, just make sure the card stock is dry first or else the stamped image will bleed into the background.
Of course you can use a heat tool to speed up the process if you're like me & can't wait for it to dry...

The card below is using all the same techniques except I've used markers on the block to create the rainbow.
Stamp Sets: Adventure Awaits
Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White & Irresistibly Yours.
Ink: Memento Black, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry.
Extras: White Jute Ribbon & Gold Sequin Trim
Techniques: Sponging & Acrylic Block Background

...& of course it was St Patrick's Day, on the day of the workshop, so I made some shamrock biscuits & bought a bunch of green grapes for the occasion.

Bokeh, Birthdays & cheesecake

I had to make a birthday card for my sons friend Lusanda, & decided to do a gift card holder for the gift card we'd bought him, but I wasn't sure how to decorate it... Then I remembered the weekly email from splitcoaststampers & the Bokeh technique.

For more on other gift card holders & links click here.

Stamp Sets: Adventure Awaits & From the Herd
Card Stock: Tempting Turquoise, Basic Gray,Water colour
Ink: Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay & Craft White
Extras: Envelope Punch Board, Mini Brads, Ribbon & Smoky Slate Blendabilities.

Inside the gift card holder I stamped the balloons in Basic Gray ink & water coloured with all the blues from the bokeh & added white chalk pen.

The gift card happened to be dark grey which is why I used Basic Gray in the colour scheme. Although the ribbon I had wasn't the right colour, so I used the medium Smoky Slate Blendabilities to colour it in, even though this left the ribbon a bit stiff, it turned out the perfect colour.

The Bokeh technique is quite fun & worth a try.
You need to wet the water colour paper with the aqua painter, then add watered down ink (approx 10 drops water to 3-4 drops ink) with the aqua painter, keep adding the colours randomly until all the paper is full. Allow to dry or use the heat tool to sped things up. Once dry add some white circles with a sponge dauber, white craft ink & some circle stencils or masks.

It was my partner Pete's 40th just recently, so this was the card I made for him, not much to do with 40 I know... but I just love this stamp from the herd. I think it looks funny on every card I see it on.
Stamp Sets: From the Herd, Just Sayin' & Hardwood
Card Stock: Crumb Cake
Ink: Versa Mark & Crumb Cake
Stampin' Write Markers: Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Smoky Slate, So Saffron, Blushing Bride, Pumpkin pie, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red & White Chalk Pen
Extras: Black Embossing Powder, Word Bubbles Framelits, Burlap & Aqua Painter

I used the aqua painter to wet the images before adding the colour with the markers, then spread the colour around with the aqua painter. More on this colouring technique

I asked Pete what kind of cake he would like for his birthday & he said cheesecake, so I made him Turkish Delight cheesecake! I basically just used the Toblerone cheesecake recipe, replaced the Toblerones with white chocolate, omitted the coffee & added a little bit of Rosewater essence & musk flavour + pink colour.
Once the base is done they just needed to be filled with the cheesecake filling & topped with a swirl of whipped cream & an extra piece of Turkish Delight on top...Yum!
I only made little ones so they would set in time for dessert.
